Zentangle Art

Room 8 students learnt about Zentangle Art

We learnt different patterns and their names then we repeated them over and over again to form a picture.
We used pencil and learnt shading techniques using our sketch pencils.

We learnt to be very patient as it took a while to fill in the picture but we all got there in the end.
Come check out our Zentangle Art in the hall!

#NaturalDisasters

This term our inquiry is on NATURAL DISASTERS !
We have 2 Inquiries that we have been learning about:

1st Inquiry

This is a whole class inquiry and we have researching about
EARTHQUAKES!

1) We learnt about the EARTHS LAYERS
2)What an Earthquake is and how it is caused?
3) Countries that earthquakes have hit (including New Zealand) and we looked at the after effects.

2nd Inquiry
We selected a Natural Disaster we wanted to inquiry into and found out:
- What is it? (example: what is a tornado)
- How it is caused?
-Interesting facts about it
-Places (country/cities) that this natural disaster has hit.
-After effects it had on people who lived there
-What we can do to prepare ourselves for this natural disaster.

It has been fun, we have learnt new things and this has helped us prepare for future events.

We have created posters to display our new knowledge, Come into class and have a look!

#GettingToKnowEachOther

TOTARA PARK- WHAKAWHANAUNGATANGA

Every year, the whole school go on a picnic in the beginning of the year.
This is a great time to meet families, parents and for teachers to get to know their new class.

On the 10th of February, we did just that! We caught the bus down to Totara park, enjoyed the beautiful weather by going on a mini bush walk down to the park where some Room 8 students stepped up and showed some leadership and displayed "Tuakana Teina" to our younger students. We cooled off in the pool with our neighbours, Room 9 and filled our stomachs with YUMMY SAUSAGE SIZZLES!!! We had a great day!
Check out some of our pictures

#UnitedAsOne

First week of school was great!
We learnt to work together as a class and became untied by getting to know each other and helping each other out through group work.
We are currently learning about the TREATY OF WAITANGI.
We read a book called
The Tree Hut Treaty.

This book helped us understand more about the Treaty of Waitangi and we also created our own Class Treaty.

We discussed and brainstormed in groups the following:

What is PRIDE?
What is PERSEVERANCE?
What does a SUCCESSFUL student look/Sound like?
What QUALITIES should a CPS student develop?

In groups we managed to come up with a lot of awesome ideas and shared this as a whole class.
